A difficult book to get through...

This is a book that is interesting and compelling, even heartbreaking at times, and since the only people who would be buying this book are more than likely fans of Brad Davis or of Midnight Express, it's worth reading.

But the key words of that last sentence are "at times." Those who previously used the word "annoying" to describe this book are right. To get to the moving moments, one must bear with Susan Bluestein Davis, who is so self-absorbed and, well, annoying, that it's hard to get through the book. For example, the first three chapters are filled with her listing every famous person she or Brad has ever met or whom Brad has been compared to. It's frustrating. I expected to be reading about Brad Davis, but the book is more to be about Brad Davis in relation to her. What seems to have kept their relationship alive is the deep denial Bluestein was/is living with, which kept her so dedicated to him, while in return he gave her "the best sex [she] ever had in her life." And that's it. Davis treated Bluestein so badly-he treated everyone very badly, but especially her. Then again, she found ways to justify his behavior. She stood by him through everything, but only by avoiding as much of the truth as possible. It's hard to criticize someone who has been through so much.

I would have rather read a biography of Davis written by someone else. His widow may be the best source, and she did promise him to write the book, but her narrative takes away from what could have been a much more powerful book.

What a pathetic waste of money...

I was extremely disappointed with "After Midnight". The author, his widow, has written the book from her own life's perspective, and there is sadly little about the true Brad Davis. His homosexuality, or perhaps bisexuality, is mentioned only in passing, and anyone in New York or Hollywood that knew him will tell you that this was a huge part of his life. I guess a book written by his wife can't be expected to delve too deeply into this area, but even other interesting details - his drug addiction, his acting technique, etc. are only minimally suggested here. I wanted to put the book down after two chapters, but kept waiting for it to get interesting. I suggest the publishers retitle the book "My Life with Brad Davis - The Saga Of A Wife Kept In The Dark", or something similar, to indicate to readers that this book is about Susan Bluestein, and tells very little about Brad.

Fascinating...yet disappointing

I originally bought the book because "Midnight Express" was one of my favorite movies and was the vehicle that prompted me to stop using marijuana when I was 17 years old. Brad Davis' performance in that film left me frozen in my seat and changed my life from one of "partying and getting high" to focusing on a career and educating myself.
I was deeply disappointed that Susan failed to see that her husband did at times in his life have sexual relations with men. She admits it by saying he was a hustler and hustled men in New York City before he was a big star. Yet several times in the book she says "Brad was not Gay" or "I know that Brad was never Gay". He may not have been gay, but he certainly was bisexual. He had to have some desire or homosexual tendancies to have had sex with men. He had more gay friendships then most gay men I know.
The underlining message of Susan's book is that she wants the stigma of AIDS to be accepted (we all do) and not have victims chastized for acquiring the virus. Well many of us want our gay lifes to be accepted as well. Just as Brad did not chose to be an AIDS victim...we did not chose our sexuality. When people start to accept people for whatever they are...be it color, religion, sexuality or misfortune of being ill with AIDS or Cancer...and we are able to accept diversity in society the world will be better place.
I hope that Susan and Alexandra (Brad's daughter) continue to live well in the wake of the hell they endured through life with Brad Davis. However, they cannot and should not forget his wonderful contributions to entertainment with his roles in "Midnight Express", "RFK" and "Roots". All of these performances of Brad's are memorable ones for me. But Midnight Express was the one that changed my life forever and I owe that to Brad Davis and Billy Hayes, the character on which the story was based.

Amazing resource for those seeking A+ certification or anyone interested in deepening their basic computer repair skills

In books like this, there's a tricky balance between providing content and being readable/approachable.

Clarke et al have found a perfect balance. I'm an interested amateur in IT, a lot of casual experience, but not extensive. When I took the pre-test at the beginning, I was happy to find I got a high majority correct. I wondered if the book was worth it. I kept reading, and the style and approach kept pulling me along, and soon found a number of gaps in my knowledge that was quickly filled. The key for this book is certification, and so that's not just providing information about computers it is also about providing cues for what the exam requires. They have broken up subjects into easily managed chunks, with a lot of self-tests along the way that show if you've learned what you've just read or if you've skimmed a bit too quickly. This is a great manual not only for certification training but indeed a one-stop-text for anyone interested in computer servicing. There are a lot of people, after all, who aren't going to be in IT vocationally, but find themselves in the role of computer technician for a wide circle of small office needs, family, friends, and personal interest.

This offers a strong overview of Windows, with helpful guidance in MacOS and Linux. It covers up through Windows 8.1, which is one of my minor disappointments as adding Windows 10 info would keep this up to date for a while longer, though not very many businesses have switched over to Windows 10 as far as I know.

For the amount of information, readability, immediate usefulness and broad development of skills, this book is top notch. Covers software, hardware, and network issues in a focused way, never fluffy but also not too much too quicky. Highly recommend

Damaged

I disliked the product. The book cover came damaged and the binding was torn. The pages inside were torn as well. Other than the book being damaged everything else was okay. I'm not sure what happened before packaging to a new book.

This is an awesome e-book, hilarious and insightful. The cover art is amazing, the writing fast and furious. What's better than to remember the good old days of the fabulous 1980s reading about the greatest action movies of all time? Forget the current slew of kid friendly cgi heavy wussy films and go back to the times of spine-ripping adventure. Body oil and glistening pecks await.

I love Arnold, but I think this book could have been more well rounded in terms of the stars. There are five or six reviews of Arnold movies, but only one JCVD movie. But, on the whole, it was a funny and insightful book that covered all of the bases you’d want. The Over The Top review and a couple of others had me literally laughing out loud. Many of the classics were covered, but some were left out. Hopefully they appear in a future volume. There were also a lot of lesser known films that I’d now like to track down at some point. Everything is broken down into digestible parts that keep things flowing. For example, a couple of movies are covered, then there’s an essay about Cynthia Rothrock, then a couple more movies and a list of the best weapons ever used in 80s action movies, and so on. I was definitely entertained. I finished the whole thing in two sittings.

These are some of my favorite movies. Like the book says, they are really entertaining, fun and funny on their own terms. But then, they can also be campy and unintentionally hilarious. This book really captures that. Reading the book, you get a lot of nostalgia, re-experiencing some of these great movies and what made them great. But there’s also the broader perspective, that allows you to laugh at their ridiculous side. So, like the movies themselves, the book is a lot of fun.

Truly Wise

I first encountered this deck at a local book shop in a sample display. I immedietaly fell in love with it. I went to the counter to buy it and they were out of stock. I then went on a search for this deck, going to all the book sellers and magical shops aroound, they were all out of stock, I was told numerous times that it was not a popular deck so they didnt carry it all the time. I then started calling stores 60 miles away looking for it, finally I found it and couldnt be happier.
This deck is simple, nourishing, wise, gentle, beautiful, peaceful, authentic, and filled with grace. Anyone on the wise woman path or path of gentle wisdom will find this deck valueable.

positive, accurate, and beautiful

I've had my Medicine Woman tarot for several years, and each year, they prove to me over and over that they are one of the most readable and positive tarot decks around. This deck is more feminine than masculine, although there are male figures shown in some of the cards. The drawings are familiar and homey-feeling, the colors easy on the eyes, and the titles of the cards are also accompanied by the more traditional tarot names, so you can use them according to your own intuition, in the more traditional tarot way, or according to the Medicine Woman's Inner Guidebook that is the source book from the creator of these cards. The cards are multicultural and tribal in nature, but do not neccesarily depict Native Americans. It is a deck that has appeal for all cultures.

I loved these cards when I bought them years ago, and have never regretted it.

A must have for any serious student!

I have worked with the Tarot for years, having worked with many decks. I have never encountered a deck that spoke to me as strongly and lovingly as this one. The message of the cards is gentle, but firm. If you are at all drawn to this deck, and can approach the readings with an open heart, then this deck will help you change your life for the better (as well as those around you.) The gentle wisdom found in the cards and the guidebook is worth the time, energy and money spent. It is by far my favorite deck.
