RATING FOR THE KINDLE VERSION - DO NOT BUY FOR KINDLE!

This book is really good, but I should have listened to the previous comment about the KINDLE VERSION being difficult to read. The footnotes are not accessible and where pictures should be it just says "can't put photo" or something. I bought this one week ago exactly and it will not let me return it. I wish I could return it and get the hard copy, it is really a good book but I do not enjoy reading it on the kindle because I feel like I am missing a lot and that is no fun.

What are you waiting for?

Great book. I can't believe I took so long to get around to buying it. It's not necessarily the type of book I'd read over and over, but I will definitely be lending it to friends to read. Just a very well written book and obviously a unique story. If you like Criminal Minds, Law and Order and those kind of shows you will love this book. Written from the prosecutor's perspective, there are details and explanations that are just...well, real.

Recommended.

I purchased the hard copy as recommend by another reader. Apparently the kindle version doesn't have the pictures that are in the hard copy. If that's the case (I can't be sure because I didn't order the kindle copy), I would HIGHLY recommend you purchase and read this one!

I loved this book. Incredibly interesting and detailed. Could not put it down. Have read it 3 times in a row. Such a sad gruesome true crime story. Vincent Bugliosi, prosecutor in the Sharon Tate and LaBianca murders captured details from beginning to end of each case. An amazing attorney and author. Recommended for any and all who enjoy true crime stories and can handle some gore and heartache:( as this book has it all.

The Amazon paperback version is not the full book.

This copy (produced by Amazon LLC) is not in fact the actual book by Nevil Shute, but a poor abridgement of it. It clocked in at 207 pages, 23 lines per page, versus 320 pages at 33 lines per page in my 1957 edition. It reads like the book condensed for English language learners. First line, second paragraph, has gone from "He woke happy, and it was some time before his conscious senses realized and pinned down the origin of this happiness," to "He woke happy, and was not sure why."

Amazon should be embarrassed to put out this product without labeling it for what it is.

This is one great book - it should be required reading in elementary, middle, and high school to give students a perspective on what uncontrolled aggression, combined with nuclear arms, can do to our world. Perhaps with the proper understanding of what can happen if renegade powers are allowed to develop nuclear weapons those renegades will be frustrated by rational people, with more than talk. It is simply a matter of making it clear to those who would be adversely affected by an irrational nuclear attack that it is foolish to weaken ourselves to the point of vulnerability. Our Citizens must be made aware of the consequences of "playing nice" with renegade powers and individuals. That doing so poses a dire threat to the whole world. This book is a perfect primer for the youth of our Country to help them come to an understanding of what's at stake if we become complacent about the issue and drop our guard.

I read this book 40 years ago, and it has always remained my answer to "What is your favorite book?" Since it had been so many years, I was having trouble remembering why the book has always been at top of my list of 'favorites'. So I bought it and read it again. I was reminded why it has been, and still is, my favorite book. Long before the apocalyptic world became such a popular genre, as it is now, Nevil Shute was able to capture the essence of what happens to folks when they know in their heart of hearts their time on earth is drawing to an end, but have such a hard time accepting that their plans to have a garden bloom next year are so senseless. Great book, simple story, that captivates the era, the eternal hope of human kind, the inevitable fate that awaits us all.

Excellent resource for electrical testing.

This book explains in detail the procedures for testing of most power type electrical equipment. The author explains in great detail the testing process, the purpose of the tests, and the acceptable and unacceptable results. Examples of data forms are provided. The author even reviews a process to set up a preventive maintenance program. Highly recommended.

Beware: This is NOT a "Ray Charles" Collection!

This book is, mostly, a collection of the original sheet music of songs Ray Charles performed and recorded. In other words, they are the original versions, NOT the versions that Ray recorded. For example, "Georgia On My Mind" is the original Hoagie Carmichael version from 1930, NOT the ultra-smooth version Brother Ray so cooly laid down. Some of the sheets are useable, like "Crying Time," and "Born to Lose," but almost all are NOT the Ray Charles version. You have been warned!

When my publisher first approached me with the idea of reimagining The Pilgrim's Progress, I was immediately interested--but I didn't want to paraphrase it or anything like that. I wanted to retell the story as a fantasy adventure rather than an allegory. So, I dove into the story headfirst. They loved the concept and we went for it.
Hint: This book was out of print for a while. Look for the newest edition, published by AMG, because I altered and re-edited nearly every scene to sharpen the story.

A Delightful Reimagining of the Pilgrim's Progress

Although many might not fully like this book, it is a refresher to countless fantasties of christian ideas that have lost focus. Some Christian Fantasy have forgotten that the journey to Heaven and the trials that we face is the real battle. The characters are interesting in this story though not fully explored. The perils in this novel are interesting enough to make you want keep reading to the end. This is a delightful reimagining of the classic story, The Pilgrim's Progress.

Let THE Story Touch Your Heart Again...

There is only one story that really matters: THE story of God reaching down into history to redeem a people for Himself. We live in that story, as we journey as vagabonds toward heaven. Four hundred years ago, a prisoner in an English jail retold THE story in such a fresh and masterful way that his words have been a bestseller ever since. That prisoner, of course, was John Bunyan, and his retelling of THE story was his masterpiece Pilgrim's Progress.

Now, a master storyteller of our generation has taken his turn at retelling THE story with the novel Quest for Celestia: A Reimagining of the Pilgrim's Progress. Patterned after the manner of Pilgrim's Progress, Quest for Celestia follows a young man, Kadin, as his eyes are opened to a great quest to visit a glorious city. His perilous journey takes him through the same type of allegorical adventures and dangers that echo both Bunyan and every Christian's life. Written in a fast-paced first-person style, this novel is an easy read akin to the Chronicles of Narnia. It has both a male and female protoganonist with a mild dash of romance thrown in to better appeal to readers of both sexes. Entertaining and inspiring, Quest for Celestia is a great read for young and old, both those familiar with Bunyan's original masterpiece and those new to the genre of imaginative retellings of God's redemptive story.

an exciting way to be encouraged in your walk

Steven James has captured the heart of the true Christian journey. This book is wonderfully entertaining as well a mirror to our own lives and the choices we make. I think this book is marketed for young adults/teens, but it is written in such a way to appeal to adults as well. Definitely worth the read, especially if you need a little inspiration in your Christian walk.
